"(Address) one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart" (Ephesians 5:19)
Dating back to Old Testament times, musical prayers convey celebration and express joy at the same time. St. Augustine is credited with saying, "He who sings prays twice."
Singing the same words at the same time also fosters unity among those gathered. It is the primary way that a group of people can speak with one voice.

Historians think the Rosary developed slowly from the 1100s to 1569, during a time when Catholics were cut off from any real participation in the liturgy. In 1569, Pope Pius V brought the Rosary to its current form and recommended it to be used to meditate on the "mysteries which recall the entire life of our Lord Jesus Christ."
The Rosary is a powerful prayer and a wonderful way to express love for our Lord and his mother. |

What is a deacon?A deacon is ordained through the Sacrament of Holy Orders but is different from a priest or bishop. He is ordained to assist the bishop and priests in the celebration of the divine ministries.
Deacons can proclaim the Gospel, preach, and distribute Holy Communion. They can also preside over funerals and bless marriages.
A transitional deacon is ordained prior to ordination as a priest. A permanent deacon doesn't become a priest and may be married prior to his ordination. |
